The Santa Clarita City Council is scheduled to approve a total of $72,000 in funding Tuesday for 15 community organizations serving the Santa Clarita Valley.

The city has provided Community Service Grants for the past 21 years, and 2012 is no exception. A panel consisting of council members Laurene Weste and Bob Kellar, Parks Commissioner Matt Halliday and various city staffers sifted through applications from 24 different groups that requested a total of $113,995.54.

With only $72,000 in city parks and rec money to work with and a $5,000 limit per applicant, the panel ranked the requests and whittled them down to 15. The SCV Boys & Girls Club, Heads Up Therapy and the SCV Senior Center ranked 1-2-3, with Single Mothers Outreach, the SCV Family YMCA and Carousel Ranch close behind.

Funds are to be distributed as follows (alphabetically):

A Light of Hope Support Center ($2,070) – for a drop-in center

Boys & Girls Clubs of SCV ($5,000) – Newhall clubhouse floor, door and extension

Carousel Ranch ($4,930) – Equipment upgrades for safety of participants and horses

Child & Family Center ($5,000) – Mobile computing for school-based services

Community Gardens of Santa Clarita ($5,000) – Outdoor meeting space

Friends of Hart Park & Museum ($5,000) – Promote SCV’s Heritage through Film series

Heads Up Therapy with Horses ($5,000) – Pipe corral fencing

LARC Ranch ($5,000) – Touch-screen computers for adults with disabilities

SCV Education Foundation ($5,000) – Student enrichment

SCV Family YMCA ($5,000) – Educational enrichment

SCV Senior Center ($5,000) – Dementia care intervention

Single Mothers Outreach ($5,000) – Financial literacy training

Triumph Foundation ($5,000) – Expansion of handcycling program

Western L.A. Council Boy Scouts of America ($5,000) – Scoutreach program (BIll Hart District)

Young Life ($5,000) – Audio-visual equipment
