UPDATE: 8/17/17: On Tuesday, around 4:15 p.m., Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies responded to a Canyon Country shopping center parking lot on the 19300 block of Soledad Canyon Road regarding a possible carjacking vehicle.
The victim, M/H, 46 years old, of Bell Gardens called 9-1-1 and notified dispatchers that he was in the presence of a male suspect who carjacked him over a week ago in Bell Gardens, and the suspect was with his carjacked vehicle. He saw a truck for sale on Craigslist in Canyon Country that matched the description of his stolen truck. He made arrangements to meet the seller in a shopping center parking lot.
When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect who was standing next to the vehicle, took off running through the parking lot. A local citizen observed the suspect running from deputies and pursued him on foot, tackling the suspect. After the 21-year-old man tackled the suspect, deputies detained the suspect without further incident. The 32-year-old suspect was wearing a black t-shirt with “Police K-9 Unit” lettering and had a replica law enforcement badge on his waistband.
Deputies confirmed that the Ford Tacoma pick-up truck in the parking lot as being the vehicle involved in a carjacking that was being investigated by Bell Gardens Police Department. The victim was able to positively identify the suspect.
Responding deputies arrested the suspect, Akop Oganesyan of Canyon Country on carjacking and impersonating a police officer charges. The suspect’s bail was set at $100,000.
There is no further information available at this time and the investigation is on-going.
