Led by four First-Team selections, College of the Canyons women’s soccer saw a total of nine players from the 2018 team honored with post-season All-Western State Conference awards.
COC sophomore midfielder Crystal Sanchez led the way with a stat line that included eight goals and three assists to go with a team-high 49 shots. Sanchez also earned All-WSC First-Team honors as a freshman in 2017.
Freshman midfielder/forward Gracell Magnaye finished second on the team with five goals across 18 starts to join Sanchez as a Fist-Team selection.
Sophomore Alexa Thornblad also earned a First-Team selection after logging four goals and an assist while splitting time between multiple positions. Thornblad previously earned Second-Team honors as a freshman.
Freshman midfielder Giselle Alvarado rounded out the First-Team selections for Canyons.
Representing COC with All-WSC Second-Team honors were freshman defenders Isabella Penaranda (one goal/one assist) and Jenny Patino, and sophomore midfielder Alondra Solis (four goals/three assists). Solis also earned All-Conference First-Team honors as a freshman.
Goalkeeper Ana Spross (1.83 GAA, 93 saves) and midfielder Angelina Maldonaldo were both recognized with Honorable Mention selections.
Canyons qualified for the postseason for an eighth consecutive year after a season in which the Lady Cougars finished as conference runner to end the program’s streak of seven straight WSC titles.
COC (8-8-3, 5-1-2) ended its season with a 2-1 playoff loss to conference champion Antelope Valley College in the opening round of the CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs.
