SAN MARCOS, Calif. — The College of the Canyons women’s volleyball team ended its first round California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) SoCal Regional game the same way it has ended the past 16 regular season matches — with a win!
In defeating No. 8 Palomar College 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 25-18) the No. 9 Cougars captured their 17th straight win, improving to 21-3 on the season.
Sophomore outside hitter Serena LeDuff again led the way for COC, finishing her night with 19.5 points by way of 13 kills and 11 digs.
Teammate Lauren Underwood contributed 17.5 points of her own with 12 kills, five service aces and four digs.
Setter Taylor Kasha totaled 31 kills and seven digs, while outside hitter Brooke Garelick tied LeDuff for a team-high 13 kills, while adding 18 digs for a 13 point performance.
Lastly, COC received an eight-point performance by Erica Magee, who contributed eight kills on 16 total attacks.
The No. 9 seed Cougars will now advance to the second round of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals, where they will travel to face No. 1 Irvine Valley College on Saturday.
Canyons and Irvine Valley (22-0) squared off in COC’s second game of the season back on Sept. 5, with the Lasers earning a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-16) road victory.
