County Supervisors approved a motion to apply for park grants for several parks in the Fifth Supervisorial District, which includes the Santa Clarita Valley.

Department of Parks and Recreation officials hope to receive $5,635,000 in grant funds from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and
Open Space District for numerous park improvements, including the Castaic Lake Recreation area, Castaic Sports Complex jogging path, Del Valle Park, Jake Kuredjian Park Play area, Dr. Richard Rioux Park Picnic area and Val Verde Park.

The Castaic Lake Recreation Area Improvements Project would cost $1,000,000 and looks to improve restroom roofing, replace picnic shelters, and refurbish exterior restrooms and parking lots.

The Castaic Sports Complex Jogging Path Project includes grading a replacement of a one mile jogging path, costing $143,000.

The Del Valle Park General Improvements Project in Castaic would include a new picnic shelter, new Americans with Disabilities Act accessible tables, barbecue grills, pathways, and the installation of a shade structure. It is expected to cost $185,000.

The Jake Kuredjian Park Play Area and Shade Structure Project in Stevenson Ranch would include a new play area and shade structure, as well as an ADA pathway. It is expected to cost $250,000.

The Dr. Richard Rioux Park Picnic Area Project in Stevenson Ranch would include a new picnic shelter, ADA accessible tables, barbecue grills and pathways, as well as new fencing. It is expected to cost $550,000.

Finally, the Val Verde Park General Improvements Project includes a new ADA pathway and would cost $157,000.

All of the projects were approved by the Los Angeles county Board of Supervisors in June 2015.
