03/20/2017 Monday
Theft of copper metals- Grandview Drive x Decoro Drive
During the overnight hours an unknown suspect removed the security cage and gained access to the backflow value. The suspect cut the valve and fled the location.

Petty Theft 23400 block of Kingston Place
An unknown suspect made entry into the victim’s unlocked car and stole a few personal items.

Burglary (Vehicle) – 23600 block of Decoro Drive
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and stole sunglasses and a safe deposit box key.

24900 block of Magic Mountain Parkway.
An unknown suspect made entry into the victim’s vehicle and stole a drill and a flashlight.

03/22/2017 Wednesday

Petty Theft 28200 block of Newhall Ranch Road
While the victim was at the location, she left her personal items inside the locker unsecured. When she returned to her locker, her wallet was missing.

Petty Theft – 23200 block of Beaumont Street
An unknown suspect walked up to the victim’s front porch and stole a package which had been delivered. The items were found down the street by the victim’s neighbor.

Grand Theft, Burglary, Conspiracy – 24400 block of Magic Mountain Pkwy Three suspects were arrested at the location for stealing baby formula. The suspect(s) had a truck full of the formula, which was all stolen.

Petty Theft -27200 block of Bidwell Lane
An unknown female stole items from the victim’s porch while she was away from her home.

Petty Theft -24400 block of Magic Mountain Parkway
A male suspect walked into the location and stole a baby stroller. The suspect pushed the items right out the front doors making no attempt to pay for the items.

Grand Theft Auto – 25000 block of Avenue Stanford
The victim had his 2008 Ford van stolen from the location.

Burglary (Vehicle) -24900 block of Magic Mountain Parkway
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked car and stole her wallet.

Burglary (Vehicle) – 23940 block of Windward Lane
An unknown suspect made entry into the victim’s locked vehicle and stole a few personal items.

Petty Theft – 24400 block of Magic Mountain Parkway
A known female suspect walked into the location and filled her shopping basket with a few high dollar items. The suspect then pushed her cart filled with the items right out the front door.

Burglary (Residential) -24400 block of Valencia Boulevard
An unknown suspect gained access into the victim’s apartment and went into his sock drawer and stole $15,000 dollars in U.S. Currency.

Burglary (Residence) -27900 block of Palmetto Ridge
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence while she was still inside the location. She walked out of her room, yelled really loud and then the suspect ran out of the location.

Burglary (Vehicle) -26900 block of Theater Drive
An unknown suspect shattered the victim’s car window and stole her purse which was visible in her car.

Grand Theft -27800 block of Smyth Drive
An unknown suspect stole four rims and tires from the victim’s Chevy Tahoe. The vehicle was parked at a storage unit.

Please remember the safety tips about theft from unlocked vehicles. I still continue to see a large number of items stolen from vehicles each week because items inside the vehicle were left in plain view. Please place all visible items inside the car, in the trunk or under the seats. I also wanted to take this time and remind everyone of a few new laws which passed as of January 1, 2017. You are no longer allowed to touch your phone while driving for any reason. You can press the phone once to answer a call or end a call. Below is the vehicle code that you could be cited for if you are caught using/holding your phone for any reason at all.

23123.5. C.V.C. (a) A person shall not drive a motor vehicle while holding and operating a handheld wireless telephone or an electronic wireless communications device unless the wireless telephone or electronic wireless communications device is specifically designed and configured to allow voice-operated and hands-free operation, and it is used in that manner while driving.

(b) This section shall not apply to manufacturer-installed systems that are embedded in the vehicle.

(c) A handheld wireless telephone or electronic wireless communications device may be operated in a manner requiring the use of the driver’s hand while the driver is operating the vehicle only if both of the following conditions are satisfied:

(1) The handheld wireless telephone or electronic wireless communications device is mounted on a vehicle’s windshield in the same manner a portable Global Positioning System (GPS) is mounted pursuant to paragraph (12) of subdivision (b) of Section 26708 or is mounted on or affixed to a vehicle’s dashboard or center console in a manner that does not hinder the driver’s view of the road.

(2) The driver’s hand is used to activate or deactivate a feature or function of the handheld wireless telephone or wireless communications device with the motion of a single swipe or tap of the driver’s finger.

(d) A violation of this section is an infraction punishable by a base fine of twenty dollars ($20) for a first offense and fifty dollars ($50) for each subsequent offense.

(e) This section does not apply to an emergency services professional using an electronic wireless communications device while operating an authorized emergency vehicle, as defined in Section 165, in the course and scope of his or her duties.

(f) For the purposes of this section, “electronic wireless communications device” includes, but is not limited to, a broadband personal communication device, a specialized mobile radio device, a handheld device or laptop computer with mobile data access, a pager, or a two-way messaging device.
