CSUN men’s and women’s track and field coach Justin Johnson has announced the 2023 indoor and outdoor schedules.
“After taking two years off from indoor track and field the team and the coaching staff are ready to get back indoors for the upcoming season,” said Johnson. “The team has been training at a high level and I believe that we are set up to have a great indoor season.”
The Matadors return indoors for the first time since 2020 and begin the campaign on Jan. 13-14 at the Spokane Indoor Challenge in Spokane, Wash. A week later CSUN heads to Albuquerque, N.M. for the first of back-to-back meets in the Jan. 21 MLK Collegiate Invitational. On Feb. 3-4, the Matadors compete in the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. CSUN returns to Spokane on Feb. 17-18 for the MPSF Championships.
The NCAA Indoor Championships are scheduled for Mar. 10-11 in Albuquerque. That same week, the Outdoor slate gets under way with a multi and an invitational meet at UC Santa Barbara that runs from Mar. 8-10.
Week two of the outdoor campaign will see the Matadors travel to Sacramento State for the Hornet Invitational Mar. 17-18. The following week, CSUN is set for a pair of meets at UCLA in the Bob Larsen Invitational on Mar. 24 followed by the Johnson/Kersee Invitational on Mar. 25. The month comes to close in Clovis for the two-day West Coast Relays Mar. 30-31.
CSUN takes a bye week before resuming competition with three meets over Apr. 12-15. From the 12-13, the Matadors are at the Azusa Pacific multi. The 14-15 sees CSUN at the Mt. SAC Relays, while on the 15th, the Matadors are at the Long Beach State Invitational. The regular season ends with events at the UC Riverside Chris Rinne Twilight on Apr. 21 and UC Irvine’s Steve Scott Invitational Apr. 28-29.
Cal State Fullerton hosts the 2023 Big West Championships. The action gets underway May 5-6 with the multi’s followed by the two-day championships May 12-13. Sacramento State will host the NCAA West Preliminary Round May 24-27. The NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships are once again hosted by the University of Texas on June 7-10.
