U.S. Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon

On Saturday, Dec. 15, Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon’s office will hold the annual interviews for students seeking nominations for appointments to our country’s military service academies: the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.  McKeon’s Special Assistant for Academy Nominations, Tom Dierckman, along with an interview panel comprised of active and retired service members, will conduct interviews of over 40 students from throughout California’s 25th Congressional District.

McKeon, who currently chairs the House Armed Services Committee, has sent over 150 students to the service academies over his tenure in Congress, and is proud that his office has been one of the most active in outreach for the academies throughout the nation.

In order for a student to be eligible for an appointment to a service academy, he/she must earn a nomination from their Congressional or Senate representative, as well as be accepted by a service academy, all of which are among the most competitive and respected universities in the country.

“The Military Academy nomination program is one of my favorite parts of my job as Congressman,” said Congressman McKeon.  “These students are some of the best and brightest in our schools and they have chosen to pursue a path of service to their country.  It is humbling and encouraging to meet these talented young adults and be a part of their pursuit of excellence.”

Nominations will be announced in the coming weeks, and those students who are appointed to an academy will be recognized by McKeon in his annual Academy Luncheon in June before they report for duty.
