Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives are investigating a handgun that deputies discovered in a bush in Newhall just before noon Sunday, station officials said Monday afternoon.
“There was a call that people heard either firecrackers or gunshots near the intersection of Ficus and Bottletree,” Lt. Andrew Dehring said.
“The deputies got there and detained three people, but determined they didn’t have anything to do with any activity and released them,” he said.
The deputies didn’t identify any victims; no one was injured, Dehring said.
“There was no blood or anything in the area and the hospitals were notified to contact us if anyone came in with a gunshot wound, but fortunately, nothing,” he said.
“The deputies did search the area and found a handgun stashed in some bushes,” Dehring said.
“Our detective bureau was notified and given the details and they will look into it further,” he said, in an effort to determine who owns the gun, who it’s registered to, or if it has been used in a crime.
