The Los Angeles Dodgers took the first of the two-game Interleague series with a 6-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox at Dodger Stadium Tuesday night.
The Dodgers improved to 3-1 on their five-game homestand, including winning their third consecutive contest.
With the victory, Los Angeles is now 50 games over the .500 mark for the first time since September 27, 1953 and for just the fourth time in franchise history.
o The Dodgers improved to 13-3 in Interleague matchups this season, including winning their last 10 Interleague games.
· The White Sox, which began their six-game road trip to Los Angeles (0-1) and Texas, dropped their third consecutive game and have dropped nine of their last 13 games since the beginning of August. Chicago fell to 20-39 on the road this season and are 4-11 in Interleague contests this year.
DODGER NOTES
· Despite allowing a leadoff home run to Tim Anderson, Alex Wood was solid in his 19th start of the season allowing just one run on six hits in 7.0 innings with six strikeouts as he did not factor in the decision. In 10 starts at home this season, Wood has gone 7-1 with a 3.02 ERA (20 ER/59.2 IP) and has held hitters to a .228 average, while striking out 70 batters against just 14 walks. Since the All-Star break, the left-handed All-Star has gone 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA (15 ER/36.2 IP) and has struck out 25 batters against eight walks.
· The Dodgers took a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning after Joc Pederson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and the next batter Austin Barnes, put the Dodgers up 4-1 with a pinch-hit two-run single. In 23 pinch-hit appearances this season, Barnes has hit .318 (7-for-22) with two doubles and five RBI.
· Corey Seager, who went 2-for-5 with a double, extended the Dodger lead to 6-1 in the eighth inning with a two-run single. Seager, who recorded his 36th multi-hit game of the season tonight, has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games since Aug. 3, batting .400 (18-for-45) with five runs, three doubles, one home run and six RBI along with a 1.014 OPS during that stretch.
· Cody Bellinger reached base safely in three of his four plate appearances tonight and went 1-for-2 with a run, two walks and a stolen base. In his last nine games since Aug. 5, Bellinger is batting .382 (13-for-34) with 11 runs, three doubles, four home runs and eight RBI along with a 1.285 OPS, while scoring a run in each of those games.
WHITE SOX NOTES
· In his 19th start of the season, Miguel González allowed just one run on five hits in 6.0 innings to collect his 10th quality start of the season as he did not factor in the decision. On the year, González owns 6-10 record with a 4.67 ERA (59 ER/113.2 IP) and has struck out 65 against 41 walks in 113.2 innings.
· Tim Anderson put the White Sox on the board first with his fourth career leadoff home run (last: Aug. 5, 2017 at BOS) to left field (estimated distance: 409 feet). The solo shot gives Anderson his fifth home run in nine games, as the Chicago, shortstop is hitting .316 (12-for-38) with nine runs, three doubles, five home runs and 10 RBI during that span.
· José Abreu, who went 1-for-4 in tonight’s contest, has hit .323 (31-for-96) with 12 runs, eight doubles, two triples, four home runs and 16 RBI in his last 24 road games since June 10. In 16 Interleague games this season, he is batting .339 (20-for-59) with nine runs, five doubles, one triple, four homers and seven RBI.
· Leury García collected his 18th multi-hit game of the season in tonight’s contest, going 2-for-4 with a double. Over his last 17 road games, Garcia is hitting .321 (18-for-56) with eight runs, two doubles, two home runs, five RBI and two stolen bases.
