Dozens of workers at a Valencia aerospace firm were treated by paramedics and firefighters after they were exposed to an unknown chemical late Monday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. at Esterline Engineered Materials, located at 28065 Franklin Pkwy.
“We had 31 workers who were exposed to the chemical,” said Inspector Sal Alvarado from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “Eight were transported to the local hospital and 23 were treated at the scene.”
The condition of those in the hospital has not been released.
Alvarado also said Hazmat officials are working on identifying the substance.
“We do know it was a powder chemical,” Alvarado said. “But we don’t have the exact name and they haven’t disclosed what if any chemicals were mixed.”

Isn’t a business suppose to have the color coded diamond on the outside of the building if using hazardous chemicals. Just asking because I don’t know. Did the fire dept walk in not knowing what chemical they were using. That is scary for the fire dept.
What is going on at this plant? Yes, they have to have a MSDS sheet, they have to have color coded diamonds on hazardous materials. They have to register hazardous materials with the state which is supposed to have the ability to look up what is at the facility at any time. These are all safeguards for workers and the public. Did someone just think because our new president wants to eliminate regulations that safeguard our communities that they don’t have to follow the rules and keep people safe? This makes me angry. There is no excuse for not knowing what that chemical is for making people sick. I have some journalist will investigate this matter.
