College of the Canyons finished in third place at the Sixth Annual East Los Angeles College Husky Classic after picking up a 78-58 win over Saddleback College on Friday.
Canyons (8-9) recorded a dominating 94-39 win over Imperial Valley College in the tournament’s opening round on Wednesday, but was stunned in its second round contest when Moorpark College was able to overcome an 18-point deficit to down the Cougars 78-72 in overtime on Thursday.
COC freshman Maryrose Elias was a force through all three games of the tourney, averaging a stat line of 17.6 points and 5.6 rebounds to earn All-Tournament team honors for the Cougars.
On Friday, Rose finished the game with 22 points on an 8-for-11 shooting night. She also pulled down four rebounds and recorded a steal and a block.
COC sophomore forward Kalana Inemer also had a big game for the Cougars, pouring in 21 points and nabbing 14 rebounds to go with four steals. Inemer was an impressive 11-of-12 from the foul line. Sophomore Dayna Tanaka scored 14 points and handed out three assists.

The bounce-back win over Saddleback was the Cougars’ third in the last four games. COC also finished in third place at the Coast Christmas Classic hosted by Orange Coast College Dec. 18-20.
Overall, Canyons is 6-4 over its last 10 games, with conference play scheduled to begin on Jan. 20.
The Cougars will first play a pair of crossover games against opponents from the Western State Conference, North Division on Jan. 5-6.
