Forget silencing your cell phone. Leave your phone on as you walk into the lobby of the Edwards Valencia movie theater and you won’t need to stand in line at the box office.
Fandango, the advance-purchase ticketing company, is going paperless.
Before, if you wanted to guarantee a seat in a popular movie, you’d go online to Fandango.com, pay for a ticket, print it out, bring it to the box office or a special kiosk and exchange it for a “real” ticket, which you’d hand to the usher.
Now, Fandango is cutting out most of those steps at select Regal theaters across the country including the Valencia Stadium 12 and IMAX theatres at the Westfield Town Center mall. (The Edwards Theatres in Canyon Country aren’t on a list released Friday by Regal, which owns the Edwards chain.)
The new service is called Mobile Ticket. Here’s the idea:
“Mobile Ticket allows customers to get their movie tickets sent to their phones as mobile 2D barcodes. This paperless convenience allows film fans to simply take their mobile phones straight to the theater ticket-taker, bypassing the box office windows and kiosks. The ticker-taker scans the ticket on the phone for easy entrance to the season’s hottest films.”
Regal and Fandango say the service “works with all mobile carriers, and does not require a smart phone or additional convenience fee.”
