The next name you’re going to come to know out of the Disney-Pixar animation school (California Institute of the Arts) is Peter Sohn, director of “The Good Dinosaur,” which releases Nov. 25.
According to Pixar, “’The Good Dinosaur’ asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.”

“The Good Dinosaur” isn’t Sohn’s directorial debut – that came in 2009 with a short feature – but if past results are indicative of future performance, this full-length animated feature will put him in the running for some big trophies early next year.
Born in the Bronx in 1977 to Korean immigrants, Sohn attended CalArts, where graduated to a career with Disney – sidestepping to Warner Bros. before landing at Pixar.
His first film credit came in 1999 as an “additional animator” on Brad Bird’s “The Iron Giant,” and from there it was up-up-up. In fact, on “Up” (2009), he was a storyboard artist. He’s even done voices – “Ratatouille” (2007), “Monsters University” (2013).
It almost goes without saying that “The Good Dinosaur” is executive-produced by Pixar chief John Lasseter, the 1979 CalArts grad with a keen eye for talent.
