The JetHawks couldn’t overcome an early deficit and fell to the Visalia Rawhide, 10-5, on Wednesday afternoon at Recreation Park.
Max George, who hit his first home run of the season in Tuesday’s game, blasted a solo home run to give him homers in back-to-back games, but it was too late for the JetHawks (10-10) who faced deficits of 5-0 and 10-4 in the game.
Lancaster spoiled early opportunities to score with base-running gaffs in the first and second innings. That allowed the Rawhide (12-8) to jump ahead with a five-run bottom of the second.
Trey Killian (0-2) struggled with his control and walked two batters and hit a batter to load the bases. He then walked Marcus Wilson to bring home the first run of the game. The next batter, Ramon Hernandez, cleared the bases with a three-run double before the Rawhide tacked on another run.
Forrest Wall tripled to begin the third inning and scored on an Alan Trejo sacrifice fly. The triple extended Wall’s hitting streak to 10 games, the longest for Lancaster this season.
The JetHawks rallied back in the fourth inning. Tyler Nevin, Vince Fernandez and Brian Serven each doubled to start the inning. Manny Melendez later doubled with one out to bring Lancaster within a run at 5-4, but he was later caught attempting to steal third base to end the inning.
Visalia answered with a Hernandez solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning against Killian. They added three runs in the fifth against reliever Juan Pena and another in the sixth on a Pavin Smith home run.
Killian allowed six runs on seven hits over his four innings.
Connor Grey (4-0), the reigning Cal League Pitcher of the Week, allowed four runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings to pick up his league-leading fourth win.
The loss snapped Lancaster’s season-long winning streak at three games and set up a rubber game in the series finale on Thursday in Visalia. Rico Garcia (2-1) will start against Sam McWilliams (1-1). First pitch is 7:00 p.m.
