Officers from the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area station have closed northbound Interstate 5 at Parker Road in Castaic due to snow in the Grapevine and Tejon Pass.
“At 1150 hours we received a call from the Bakersfield communication center that snow was sticking on the Grapevine,” according to an alert from Josh Greengard, Newhall CHP spokesman, issued at 12:29 p.m.
“The CHP Newhall Area is in the process of shutting down the I-5 freeway on our side of the hill,” Greengard said. “The I-5 at the Tejon Pass is impassable, due to snow and/or ice, for an unknown duration.”
The CHP has implemented its “Operation Snowflake” procedures for the duration of the storm.
All traffic will be directed to turn around at Parker Road and motorists will be advised to take alternate routes to their destinations.
“Generally, the primary alternate route in this situation is SR-126 to US-101 to SR-166 to I-5, or SR-14 to SR-58 to SR-99,” Greengard said.
“Please bear in mind alternate routes are subject to closures with short/zero notice,” he said. “Therefore, it is imperative motorists verify, for themselves the status of alternate route(s) prior to travel.”

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works called for road closures in the Angeles National Forest Monday afternoon.
Big Tujunga Road is closed from Angeles Forest Highway to Vogel Flats.
Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road is closed from Angeles Forest Highway to Angeles Crest Highway.
Angeles Forest Highway is closed from Aliso Canyon Road to Angeles Crest Highway.
When the roads will reopen is to be determined, according to DPW officials.

I was stuck in the traffic tie up at parker road yesterday.I find it in very poor judgment and a lack of concern for any one but them selfs.When thy drive down the shoulder of the to pass other driver who have been wait as long or most likely in the traffic mess,as if their is more valuable than than every body else.If the stste is so concered about revenew why aren t those drivers ticketed.
