The city of Santa Clarita’s Thursdays@Newhall series, presented by Galpin Subaru, cruises into August with a lineup of fun, entertaining and interactive events.
Thursdays@Newhall is an ongoing opportunity for residents of Santa Clarita to attend free shows and concerts and relax with friends every Thursday night in Old Town Newhall.
The fun gets going on August 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at JAM Sessions, where Caribbean music and dance take center stage. Betty Rox will lead attendees through a cultural journey of Belize, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago with dance that includes styles such as soca and punta.
Live music from Detour Posse will liven the atmosphere with high-energy tunes that encompass roots reggae, dance hall, ska, funk and much more.
JAM Sessions is hosted in conjunction with the Ford Theatre Foundation, bringing dance and original live performances to the Old Town Newhall Library, located at 24500 Main Street.
Also on August 3, at The MAIN, located at 24266 Main Street, 10 performers will take the stage for 10 minutes each and share their comedy, storytelling, short films and music at the monthly “10 by 10″ show from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
August performances include music by The New Mexican, comedy with Chris Cope, storytelling by Victoria Sayeg, music with Steven Kai Van Betten, storytelling by Pablo Marz, magic with Scott Marshall, comedy with Darell Davie, music by Burton Zimmer, storytelling by Alex Stein and the short film “C’est Jane.”
On August 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., European cars and bikes ride into town for the Revved Up car show, presented by State Farm. Residents can enjoy food trucks and purchase adult beverages from Persia Lounge while checking out Porsches, MGs, Fiats and other rides from across the pond. Car owners interested in submitting an automobile for Revved Up can apply at OldTownNewhall.com/RevvedUp.
At the same time on August 10, local songwriters will perform their original works at Note by Note inside The MAIN, located at 24266 Main Street. The evening’s performers will be Jodi Siegel, Jeannie Willetts, Steve Paulson and Siobhan Chapman. Performers interested in Note by Note can learn more at OldTownNewhall.com/NotebyNote.
Hop in your DeLorean and flash back to the ’80s on August 17 from 7 p.m. to p.m. at the Senses block party, presented by Galpin Subaru. Relax with a drink in hand from the on-street bar, provided by El Trocadero, hang out with friends and enjoy the adult-friendly atmosphere. Complete the evening with grub from one of the food trucks or local restaurants.
Thursdays@Newhall’s August schedule concludes with an art reception for the City’s 30th Anniversary Exhibit on August 17 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The MAIN. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public all month, showcases images of Santa Clarita as captured by local amateur and professional photographers.
Additional works will also be displayed that either reinterpret or are inspired by the Santa Clarita city seal. Attendees will enjoy light appetizers, entertainment, an interactive art installation and a chance to meet the featured artists and photographers.
