STOCKTON – The JetHawks allowed four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and dropped the series opener to the Stockton Ports, 9-5, on Monday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
The JetHawks (13-12) trailed, 5-3, heading into the top of the seventh and Forrest Wall led off with a home run, his first of the season, to bring Lancaster within a run. Willie Abreu followed with a double and eventually scored to tie the game, 5-5.
Stockton (16-9) answered with four runs against relievers Salvador Justo (1-1) and Juan Pena. The damage came on four hits and three walks, all with two outs in the inning.
The JetHawks had taken an early 2-0 lead for starter Trey Killian. Roberto Ramos drove home the game’s first run with a RBI-single in the second inning. Wall picked up his first RBI of the game with a single in the third.
Killian didn’t allow a run through his first four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth. The Ports scored twice to tie the game before reliever Heath Holder entered and ended the inning with a strikeout. Killian allowed two runs on six hits with five walks and four strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
Tyler Nevin led off the sixth inning with a double and later scored on a Max George sac-fly, but the Ports answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning against Holder.
Colton Welker extended his hitting streak to eight games in the contest, and Nevin extended his to seven.
The series continues on Tuesday night in Stockton. Rico Garcia (3-1) takes the mound against Brian Howard (2-2). First pitch is 7:10 p.m. at Banner Island Ballpark.
