STOCKTON – The JetHawks pounded Stockton Ports pitching to the tune of 16 runs on 20 hits, both season-highs, in a 16-6 win on Wednesday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
Lancaster (14-13) scored 11 of its 16 runs in the final two frames, including seven runs in the ninth inning, the most runs the club has scored in an inning this season. The scoring was capped by a Manny Melendez grand slam, his first home run and the JetHawks’ first grand slam of the season. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
The JetHawks totaled three home runs on the night. Brian Serven’s two-run homer in the sixth inning put the JetHawks ahead for good, but the score was only 5-4 at the time.
Roberto Ramos hit Lancaster’s first home run, a two-run line drive to right field. It was his team-leading sixth home run of the season and his second of the series.
Matt Dennis (2-4) allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings to pick up his second win. Stockton starter Matt Milburn (1- 2) allowed five runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings and suffered the loss.
Alan Trejo reached base five times on the night, finishing 3-for-4 with two walks and two RBI. Colton Welker went 2-for-6 with a double and three RBI.
The JetHawks will look to split the series with a win in the series finale on Thursday morning in Stockton. Logan Longwith (0-2) will start against left-hander Zack Erwin (2-1). First pitch is 11:10 a.m.
