The Lancaster JetHawks took the first game of a doubleheader, 5-4, before falling to the Lake Elsinore Storm in the second game, 4-2, on Wednesday night at The Diamond.
Garrett Hampson carried the JetHawks (59-51, 21-19) from the leadoff spot throughout the doubleheader. He gave Lancaster the lead in the top of the third in game one with a two-run home run down the left field line that just wrapped around the foul pole. It was his fourth long ball of the season. He finished the first game 3-for-4 with three RBI before reaching base and scoring a run in the second game.
Ty Culbreth (3-1) delivered a quality start in the opening game, allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings. The left-hander allowed a run in the first inning but his offense rallied to give him a 5-1 lead before he allowed another run in the fifth.
The JetHawks sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth inning of the first game. Robbie Perkins started the inning with a double and scored on a Hampson base-hit. Sam Hilliard picked up Hampson with a RBI-hit of his own and Hamlet Marte finished the frame with a run-scoring single.
Scott Griggs made his JetHawks and Rockies organization debut in the seventh inning to try and pick up the save but allowed two runs on two hits with two walks before coming out of the game. Marc Magliario entered with the tying run at second base and the winning run at first, and induced a game-ending fly ball for his second save.
Thomas Dorminy (2-2) took the loss in game one, allowing five runs on 12 hits in 4.2 innings.
Lancaster jumped on the board with a run in the first inning of game two courtesy of a Wes Rogers sac-fly. Lake Elsinore (51-59, 15-24) answered with four runs against Peter Lambert (9-8). The right-hander lasted three innings and allowed four runs on six hits for the loss.
Logan Allen (2-3) allowed one run on two this over five innings for the victory. He finished his start by recording 14 consecutive outs.
The JetHawks took two of three from Lake Elsinore and continue their road trip on Thursday with the first of four games in Rancho Cucamonga. Trey Killian (8-7) will start the series opener for the JetHawks against left-hander Michael Boyle (4-3). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
