The Los Angeles County Community Development Commission has earmarked $1.5 million in Affordable Housing Trust Funds for construction and financing of Six Four Nine Lofts, a supportive housing development for homeless military veterans and special-needs households on L.A.’s Skid Row.

Officials from the Los Angeles County Community Development Commission joined Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti, and Los Angeles City Councilman José Huizar to celebrate the groundbreaking of Six Four Nine Lofts. The site is being developed by Skid Row Housing Trust.

Located in the Skid Row area of downtown Los Angeles, Six Four Nine Lofts will provide 55 affordable studio units, including 36 units for homeless persons that are frequent users of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS), 18 units for homeless veterans, and one manager’s unit.

Skid Row Housing Trust will be the lead service provider, offering case management, mental health care services, substance abuse services, and life skills, in addition to other supportive services.

The 18 units that serve homeless veterans will also receive case management, health care, and other supportive services from the Greater LA Veterans Affairs.

“As we await the results of the recent homeless count, we know that thousands of people remain unhoused,” said Monique King-Viehland, Acting Executive Director. “As such, we are excited to start 2018 off working in partnership with the City to ensure 54 tenants can look forward to a more stable way of life.”

Six Four Nine Lofts will include a resident lounge with computers, community kitchen, container garden and edible landscaping, laundry room, short- and long-term bike spaces, and outdoor terraces.

The development will feature residential units on the upper four floors and a 25,000 square-foot Federally Qualified Health Clinic, named the Joshua House Health Center, on the first three floors.
