La Mirada, Calif. – Despite carrying great momentum into Wednesday night’s road match at Biola, the seventh-ranked Lady Mustangs of The Master’s College came up short to the 22nd-ranked Eagles with a 1-0 loss.
The loss drops TMC’s record to 8-3-1, and 3-1-1 in GSAC play.
With the win, the Eagles sit on top of the conference standings with a spotless 5-0 GSAC record while the Lady Mustangs sit in third behind Concordia University.
With a three game winning streak going into the match, the Lady Mustangs came out aggressively by posting five shots in the first half, but were unable to get one past the keeper. The Eagles got on the board in the 22nd minute when Margaret Guadarrama dished a pass to Amanda Lillicrop to score the lone goal of the match and her seventh of the season.
Trailing the Eagles 1-0, TMC refused to quit.
Right out of the gate from the half, the Lady Mustangs began to fire away shots. Natasha Coyle (La Habra, CA) cranked a shot wide, followed by attempts from Katie Farris (Santa Clarita, CA) and Gabrielle Arnone (Castaic, CA). Unfortunately, none of these made it past Biola’s keeper.
The Lady Mustangs continued to put pressure on the Eagles, but the opposition did not give in. Farris posted seven shots on the night while Elvia Contreras (Santa Clarita, CA) notched four.
By the end of the evening, the Lady Mustangs became the seventh team to be shut out by the Eagles this season.
Now, with five games left to go, TMC still has an opportunity to win the conference.
Looking to rebound Saturday, the Lady Mustangs will host Hope International at home with the goal of keeping their conference winning aspirations alive.
Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. at Reese Field.
