More than 250 agencies donated their efforts to help support and raise money for the City of Hope as part of the 2017 “Pink Patch Project,” an innovative campaign designed to increase public awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds for the fight against the disease.

With deep sincerity, Commander Cheryl Newman-Tarwater of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shared her own personal experience and stressed the importance of the Pink Patch Project.

“I am using this occasion in a positive way, to encourage everyone to be diligent about getting examined and staying on top of their medical regimen,” she said. “I am proud to be part of the Pink Patch Project.”

The Sheriff’s Department alone collected $45,000 to help increase public awareness and fight breast cancer. The money will be used by the City of Hope for breast cancer education, treatment and research.

The 2017 LASD Pink Patch is available for sale online at the City of Hope web store for $10. There is a limited supply available for sale.

What is the #PinkPatchProject?
The Pink Patch Project is a collaborative effort between the LACPCA and over 110 public safety agencies throughout the United States. The program centers on vibrant pink versions of the agency’s uniform patches. Officers from the participating agencies wore these pink patches on their uniforms during “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” last month in October. The pink patches are intended to stimulate conversation within the community and to encourage public awareness about early detection and treatment in the fight against this disease.

As part of this program, participating agencies are selling their commemorative pink patches to the community, along with Pink Patch Project T-shirts, challenge coins and other items.

Proceeds from the sale of these commemorative items will go to fund breast cancer education, research, and treatment.
