The Los Angeles Search and Rescue Team is preparing for El Nino flooding and rescues by adding more certified technicians to their unit.
Last weekend 18 additional LASD Search and Rescue Team members attained Swiftwater Rescue Technician certification in anticipation of El Nino flooding and rescues.
These numbers augment 20 LASD SAR members previously certified. This certification means that these volunteer rescuers are able to safely rescue someone who becomes swept down a river or aqueduct as a result of flooding or high water. These types of rescue responses are some of the most dangerous undertaken by first responders across the country. One-third of all Swiftwater deaths are of rescuers, professional and citizens alike.
In a proactive and humanitarian effort, LASD SAR teams are assisting in locating homeless camps established in mountainous riverbeds and waterways. Multiple LA County agencies are working to provide these displaced individuals with various services which are available to them.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Team members are Reserve Sheriff’s deputies who volunteer their time to help others for $1 a year, and who partner with Sheriff’s civilian volunteers who volunteer for free. There are 200 members of the eight Search and Rescue teams of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. They are all Emergency Medical Technicians and certified mountaineers. These rescuers were activated for 597 search and rescue missions last year, making it one of the most active counties for search and rescue missions in the nation. Reserve deputies and civilian volunteers are supervised by full-time sheriff’s deputies.

Show a picture of sheriffs department helicopter then, not the fire department, is it really that hard.
That is the LASD rescue helicopter. You can tell by the giant LASD star logo on the tail. Fire Deprtment has an F in it.
