Lisa Hamblen Jaserie, a former Top 10 recording artist, horse breeder, music company CEO and longtime Friends of Hart Park board member, died at her home in Friendly Valley Tuesday morning, surrounded by members of her large family. She was 79.

A 47-year resident of the Santa Clarita Valley and well-known throughout the community, Jaserie lost a battle with pulmonary fibrosis, according to her son, Bill Lindsay.

As a board member of the nonprofit Friends of Hart Park from 2002-2017, including several years serving as treasurer, she worked on countless events in support of the Newhall park and its activities.

“We have lost a Great American lady,” said Laurene Weste, Santa Clarita Mayor Pro-Tem and president of Friends of Hart Park.

“She was not only a fellow board member but also a loving treasure and a dear friend to all,” Weste said. “As we are all saddened by this loss we will remember her as a lady of inspiration and one with a great positive attitude.”

Born Obee Jane Hamblen January 1, 1938 in Los Angeles, she was a member of the Hollywood Presbyterian Church from childhood through most of her life.

From the age of six, she was a featured singer on her father’s radio shows, “Stuart Hamblen and His Lucky Stars” and “The Cowboy Church,” which aired over the years on KFWB, KNX and KCLA in Los Angeles.

Obee Jane, as she was known then, and her sister Veeva’s recording of “Open Up Your Heart (And Let the Sun Shine In)” reached No. 7 on the Billboard top 100 singles chart in 1955, when both girls were still in high school.

Their father produced the track and actually wanted children’s voices, the family story goes, so he recorded his daughters singing slowly at 33 rpm, then sped up the playback to 45 rpm for the single release. It was the first time sped-up voices were used in a pop record in this way. That in turn was an inspiration for The Chipmunks’ run of hits in the late ’50s and early ’60s.

Obee Jane graduated from Hollywood High School in 1955. She attended UCLA, where she majored in interior decorating and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Hamblen met and married her first husband, William Walter Lindsay, a pension consultant with Pension & Profit Sharing Consultants of America, and adopted the first name “Lisa” in July 1959.

After marrying, her first job was working as a Kelly Girl with the renowned temp employment agency, then as Administrator to the Senior Vice President of Hyatt Hotels in Los Angeles.

Lisa also worked for many years with her parents Stuart and Suzy Hamblen at the Hamblen Music Company, initially based in Hollywood. The company relocated its headquarters to Santa Clarita in the mid-1970s. She also took on the role of treasurer for the company, and in 2008 became Hamblen’s CEO.

In May 1966, Lisa remarried, to Joseph C. Jaserie, a district manager for the Copper Penny chain of coffee shops, and later a purchaser for Hydromill.

She also raised champion Peruvian Paso horses on her parents’ ranch in Santa Clarita, and rode in the Rose Parade for more than 25 years.

For the last decade, instead of retiring, Lisa served as Hamblen Music’s CEO, and devoted most of her free time to family and activities boosting Hart Park.

“The Bible never talked of retirement, so she was under the impression that there was always something to do,” Bill Lindsay said. “That’s one of the reasons she was on the board at Hart Park, and was the boss of a music company when most other people would have retired.”

Hamblen Music remains family-owned, with Bill Lindsay now assuming its leadership.

Lisa Hamblen Jaserie was preceded in death by her second husband Joe Jaserie in August 2012 and son Christopher Jaserie in October 2016.

She is survived by her sister Veeva Hamblen Presnell of Livingston, Montana; son Bill Lindsay, Tampa, Florida; son Bob Lindsay, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; daughter Kim Jaserie, Santa Clarita; daughters-in-law Michelle Lindsay, Tampa and Rhea Lynn Jaserie, Las Vegas; grandsons Joshua Lindsay and Josiah Lindsay, Tampa, and Michael Lindsay, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada; grandsons-in-law Barrett Luciak, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada and Matt LaRose, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; granddaughters Stephanie Lindsay, Lloydminster, Lisa Lindsay LaRose, Vancouver, Shannon Lindsay Luciak, St. Albert, Sarah Lindsay, Tampa, Alexandria Jaserie, Las Vegas and Harmony Jaserie, Las Vegas; great-grandson Lincoln Luciak, St. Albert; great-granddaughter Aimethyst Jaserie, Las Vegas; nephews Tulley Brown Presnell, Livingston, Daniel Whisenant, La Crescenta, California and Matt Whisenant, Woodland Hills, California; nieces Shannon Noel, Seattle, Raine Hickman, Austin,Texas and Dianna Whisenant, North Hollywood, California; and dozens more extended family members scattered around North America.

Memorial Services will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, in the “Church of the Hills” on Saturday, August 12 at 12:30 p.m. The address is 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles 90068.
