The man arrested for shooting a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputy in the neck during an incident in Newhall on November 28 has been identified as Monolito Guerra, a 29-year-old parolee who had served 20 months of a five-year sentence.

Here’s the story from the station’s social media:

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau has released details regarding the identity of the suspect arrested in connection with the deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Santa Clarita on November 28, 2017.

SCV Sheriff’s Station deputies were dispatched to the 21300 block of Bottletree Lane for an assault with a deadly weapon call. A suspect, who was located in the parking area near the pool at the location, fired his handgun toward responding deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

One of the deputies suffered a gunshot wound to the neck. The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital where he was hospitalized in stable condition. He has since been released and is on the road to recovery.

The suspect, identified as Monolito Guerra, a 29-year-old Hispanic man, was struck at least once in the torso. He was transported to a local hospital for surgery.

On December 10, Guerra, who was determined to be on parole, was transferred to a medical jail ward located at the Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center and booked for a parole violation.

Through their investigation, Homicide Detectives learned that Guerra was initially arrested on October 15, 2014. He was sentenced to state prison on February 2, 2016. He was serving a five-year prison term for evading arrest, a four-year prison term for a secondary charge of evading arrest, and an eight-month prison term for assault with a deadly weapon.

Guerra was paroled to the city of Santa Clarita on October 19. The deputy-involved shooting occurred less than six weeks later.
