The College of the Canyons theatre department will present its production of “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” in the Black Box Theater at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center.

The production will be for a limited engagement running March 18-26.

Written by Bert V. Royal, “Dog Sees God” is an unauthorized parody that imagines characters from the Charles M. Schulz comic strip as teenagers.

COC theatre faculty member, Erin McBride Africa, will direct the production of “Dog Sees God.”

The cast and crew are comprised entirely of COC theatre students.

The material is not intended for young audience as it deals with mature situations such as, drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion, sexual relations and identities.

“Like its source material, ‘Dog Sees God’ uses these situations to dig deeper into the big existential questions that rise up within us at the cusp of adulthood,” said Africa about the play’s content.

The award-winning play originally premiered in 2004 at the New York International Fringe Festival, winning the Excellence Award for Best Overall Production.

“It’s loaded with teenage tropes, tackling issues and topics that are often regarded as lightweight, insignificant,” added Africa.

Performances of the COC theatre department’s production of “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” will take place at 8 p.m. March 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26.

A matinee performance will run at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 20.

General admission tickets are $10.

Students and seniors are $5.
