The College of the Canyons theatre, dance and music departments will present “Legally Blonde: The Musical” at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) for a limited engagement running May 1-10.
COC theatre department chair Paul Wickline says he and his cast and crew are “tickled pink” to present the play based on the 2001 film of the same name.
“Audiences are going to be thrilled with this production. ‘Legally Blonde: The Musical’ is sweet, funny, full of infectious energy and packed with non-stop musical numbers that feature exciting choreography,” said Wickline.
“Legally Blonde: The Musical” stays true to the original story with a peppy score and playful book. Main character Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside-down, however, when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting serious about his life and attend Harvard Law School. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her charm to get herself admitted into the prestigious institution.
At school, she struggles with peers, professors, and Warner Huntington. With the help of Paulette and Emmett, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.
This high-energy pop musical’s fun and catchy score features music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, and a hysterical book by Heather Hach.
“Legally Blonde: The Musical” is directed by Matt McCray who also directed the college’s production of “RENT” last spring.
“Our talented director has worked closely with the design staff and performers to craft a musical treat full of eye and ear candy,” Wickline added. “Don’t miss this fun musical.”
The production will star Lindsay Kazan as Elle Woods. The cast also features Kelly Boardman (Paulette), Colin Robert (Emmett), Scott Gannon (Professor Callahan), Lawrence Patchin (Warner), Kriste Joga (Vivienne), Lindsay Ryan (Brooke), Savannah Haerle-Crow (Serena), Sabrina Lewis (Pilar), Emma Heywood (Margot), and Brianne Lopez (Enid).
Tickets for “Legally Blonde: The Musical” are priced from $7 to $12. A $2 to $3 facility fee will also be charged for each ticket.
Performances will take place at 8 p.m. May 1, 2, 8 and 9 and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3 and May 10.
