More than 80,000 volunteers are expected to extend a “Helping Hand” to benefit communities across California and Hawaii on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will be participating in service projects to clean up, paint and landscape ten schools sites under the direction of the Saugus School District during the Mormon Helping Hands Day of Service.
President Steven Lindberg who presides over all the LDS Santa Clarita congregations stated, “Our Saviors admonition to “love one another” has a practical as well as a deeply theological meaning. Mormon Helping Hands day of service is one of the practical ways in which we can put his words into action. By setting aside this day each year—all across California —we have the opportunity to work together with people of all faiths to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. And, it reminds us that we are a community that cares. We encourage everyone who is able and available to join us in this day of service”.
Councilman Bob Kellar and Councilman Dante Acosta will join hundreds of volunteers at 7:30am, Saturday morning April 26th at the LDS Church, 19513 Drycliff Street, Canyon Country, to offer their words of encouragement before we depart for our assignments.
School Site Projects include: Rio Vista ES, Emblem Academy, Skyblue Mesa, Bouquet Preschool, Bridgeport Elementary, Santa Clarita Elementary, North Park Elementary, Mountainview Elementary, Plum Canyon Elementary and Rosedell Elementary.

Awesome, thank you
One day a year only one day a year? I mean man with seven wives should should be able to prioritize a little better then that with all those kids one could do a day of service a week
Tommy, You are one very sick puppy!
Doesn’t anyone remember the whole fundamental “separation of church and state” . These are public schools, supported by public tax dollars, and while volunteers are nice , they should NOT be blatantly connected with ANY religious group.
There is separation of church and state, and yet religious kids go to the public schools, and religious parents are also taxpaying citizens paying for those schools. I think it’s great they also help improve the community. I’d be curious to see a “non-religious” organization put together such a strong volunteer effort! There are a few, I know, but when was the last time you saw an athiest group organize a big volunteer effort to help the community (without a lawsuit involved!!)??? Just a different point of view that I thought should be shared. Thanks.
Stfu Tommy
tell ’em to come to my house when they’re done, I got some stuff needs done
How about dedicating a day of service to the LGBT community? Then again, after what their leaders did to them – nothing would really help.
Thank you and God bless.
