A motorcyclist who was airlifted to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital following a collision Saturday died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, according to a news release issued by the California Highway Patrol.
The Yamaha motorcycle was headed southbound on Soledad Canyon Road, just south of Agua Dulce Canyon Road, where a Chevrolet vehicle exited a private driveway into the motorcycle’s path, the release stated.
The motorcycle subsequently struck the left rear of the Chevrolet, which caused the cyclist, a 51-year-old man, to be ejected and sustain major injuries, according to a CHP report.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner identified the man on Monday as Larry Doran of Santa Clarita.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Erik Wyler, was not injured in the crash, and no arrests were made, per the release.
The cyclist was reported to be “down in pain,” according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The L.A. County Coroner office has not yet identified the deceased, pending the notification to next of kin.
Los Angeles County Fire Department officials initially responded to reports of a downed motorcyclist at 11:48 a.m. and arrived by 12:02 p.m., according to fire Supervisor Melanie Flores.
The LA County Fire helicopter’s landing zone was located at Acton Conservation Camp No. 11 on Soledad Canyon Road in Acton.
Emily Alvarenga contributed to this report.

I am terribly sorry to hear about the motorcyclist dying due to his collision with a motor vehicle on Soledad Canyon Road.
My own experiences with motorcyclists on Soledad Cyn Rd and other local roads suggests that there is not enough participation by law enforcement in managing traffic and speeds on the local roadways.
I don’t fear for my own safety; I drive a truck. But the number of times I’ve been passed on corners and short straights suggest that other people are not so much concerned.
I do not assume that his case is the same as I have mentioned as occurring before; Heck, I’ve got folks riding up and down Poppy Meadow St on their dirt bikes and off-road vehicles getting ready for the weekend.
But I know that they do that, and I adjust my driving to compensate for it. Soledad Cyn Road is an entirely different thing. It is a through-way, and an alternate to Hwy 14 – which means that it is NOT a place to play or take chances when the curves and side roads can drop a motorcycle in an instant when a large vehicle in it’s own lane is in the way.
RIP, to the cyclist and best wishes to his family. As for local Sheriffs and their road control – not so much.
Thank you for the comment. Larry was my fiance. I will never be the same.
