Visitors to the SCV Senior Center’s annual Touch-A-Truck event each year have been posting photos of their families enjoying the event, and inviting friends to join them. This year, those who post photos of designated areas of the event will have an opportunity to win prizes in the Posts for Prizes social media contest.
This year’s Touch-A-Truck event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20, in Santa Clarita’s Central park on Bouquet Canyon Road. The event will include vehicles of all kinds, games and contests for children, live entertainment, vendor booths and food trucks with everything from sandwiches and pizza to sweets.
Contestants who want to participate in the Posts for Prizes contest will be asked to visit five designated areas within the event and post at least one photo for each area on Facebook or Twitter. Photos must be posted with a tag of both the SCV Senior Center and the company/organization represented in each of their five posted photos and include the hashtag #SCVSC. Winners will be randomly selected from the contestants who qualify, and their names will be announced on the SCV Senior Center’s Facebook page on Monday, June 22.
Aside from the contest, the Touch-A-Truck event offers a myriad of photo opportunities, with an assortment of emergency vehicles, construction rigs, movie vehicles and more for children to climb on and sit in. The Shaky Quaky Schoolhouse will simulate an earthquake, and a Sheriff’s Mounted Posse member will be there on horseback.
Smokey the fire preventing bear and the Jethawks’ mascot Kaboom will offer photo opportunities with children, and Six Flags Magic Mountain has been invited to send one of its popular Warner Brothers characters. A monster truck that was a favorite photo opportunity for families last year will be returning this year, along with an antique fire engine from the Disney Golden Oak Movie Ranch.
Guests can also win prizes by guessing the number of beach balls in the bed of a city dump truck, and children can claim a ball of their own once the truck dumps its load of balls at 12:30 p.m.
Admission to Touch-A-Truck is $5, and fathers and grandfathers will be admitted free when accompanied by their children in honor of the Fathers’ Day weekend. Proceeds will go to the SCV Senior Center and help to support such services as Home Delivered Meals, Respite Day Care, and Care Management to local seniors.
Advance tickets can be ordered at scv-seniorcenter.org or by calling Jennifer at (661) 259-9444, extension 144. Tickets will also be available at the gate on June 20. A free shuttle will be available to transport guests from the overflow parking lot at Saugus High School, nearby on Centurion Way, once the Central Park lot reaches capacity.
