Newhall School District Superintendent Paul Cordeiro
Newhall School District Superintendent Paul Cordeiro has announced his retirement effective June 29, and the District’s Governing Board will begin its search for a successor immediately.
Cordeiro succeeded Dr. Marc Winger in February of 2015. He previously served as superintendent of the Carpinteria Unified School District for nearly 10 years. From 2000-2005, he was Newhall’s Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services before leaving for the Carpinteria position.
“I am extremely grateful to have served an outstanding school District for a total of nine years,” Cordeiro said. “The Newhall Governing Board’s expectation of academic excellence has fostered a staff culture that singularly focuses on raising student achievement. It has been a privilege to be a part of a team that has worked tirelessly for the students over many years. I thank our dedicated teachers who have been so very forward-thinking in learning about and using best practices in the classroom. We have asked a lot of these teachers and they continue to deliver.”
Cordeiro also thanked the site administrators, District management team and support staff who work in concert on behalf of the students and their families.
“Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank our scores of parent and community volunteers whose contributions to the District are innumerable,” Cordeiro said. “Without them, we would not be attaining the level of success our Governing Board expects. Newhall will always have a special place in my heart and I am confident that my successor will work with all of our stakeholders keep Newhall on top.”
In retirement, Cordeiro intends to spend time with his three grown children, volunteer for various youth-serving organizations, and pursue interests that include cooking, gardening, fitness and writing.
“I embrace the transition to a slower pace, understanding that there will be a period of adjustment,” he said. “I think I’m up to the challenge.”
