The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s J- Team will partner with Walmart and Ralphs pharmacies for the DEA‘s National Prescription Drug Takeback Day on Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be two locations available ere residents may drop off unused prescription meds:
* Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, 23740 Magic Mountain Pkwy., Santa Clarita 91355;
* Walmart, 26471 Carl Boyer Dr., Santa Clarita 91350.
Station officials recommend residents dropping off drugs arrive no later than 1:45 p.m.
The National Prescription Drug Takeback Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue, as the DEA website notes. According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
The DEA’s Takeback Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
