City of Santa Clarita staff members will be at the 11th Annual Bow-Wows & Meows Pet Fair providing information concerning dog licensing and vaccinations on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hart Park, located at 24151 Newhall Avenue.
The City, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control Department, has started a new program to promote dog licensing and vaccinations throughout Santa Clarita. Dog licensing is an important means of identification and can help quickly identify dogs if they become lost.
According to Santa Clarita Municipal Code 8.20.030, dog licensing is required for all dogs over the age of four (4) months. Additionally, California Health and Safety Code section 121690(b) requires vaccinating dogs for rabies to help protect human and animal safety. Vaccinations are an important way to protect your dog from contagious and deadly diseases such as rabies, canine parvovirus, and canine distemper.
Santa Clarita Canvassing staff is currently visiting homes throughout the City of Santa Clarita to verify dog licensing and vaccinations. Residents should be prepared to provide valid documentation.
To renew a dog license, visit animalcare.lacounty.gov. To obtain a valid dog license, visit the Castaic Animal Shelter, located at 31044 N. Charlie Canyon Rd.
