CSUN Alum Cheech Marin (Up in Smoke, Jane the Virgin) hosts an evening of comedy for the 3rd annual CSUN alumni performance on September 28 at Valley Performing Arts Center (The Soraya). The evening will also feature Paul Rodriguez, Marcella Arguello, Frankie Quinones and Francisco Ramos.

With an unequalled catalog of film, TV, and recordings, Cheech Marin, a five-decade veteran has done it all, from king of counter culture to his familiar voice in Disney’s The Lion King. Cheech returns to his old CSUN stomping grounds and brings some of the young guns of comedy with him to VPAC.

Cheech Marin Hosts an Evening of Comedy (September 28) marks the third annual CSUN Alumni performance at Valley Performing Arts Center (The Soraya). Previously, VPAC hosted alumni mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung and System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian.

Longtime comedian Paul Rodriguez has been making audiences laugh all over the world (in Spanish and English) for over three decades with his unique brand of humor that is a perfect blend of his Latin heritage, the American dream and his undeniable universal appeal. As an actor and comedian, Paul Rodriguez’s multi-faceted career includes starring roles and featured appearances in over 45 films and countless television series and comedy specials.

Voted one of the most influential Hispanics in America and awarded the Ruben Salazar Award by The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, Rodriguez has remained a constant force in his community and the world of comedy throughout his career.

His film and television credits include Ali, Fixing Paco, Rat Race, a.k.a. Pablo, Blood Work, and Born in East L.A. with Cheech Marin. The multifaceted entertainer recently wrote and performed his first-ever one-man show Just for the Record, which is now available on DVD.

As an accomplished writer, director and producer for television, motion pictures and feature shows, Rodriguez has several hit projects to his credit including the comedy concert film The Original Latin Kings of Comedy, which he executive produced and starred in along with Cheech Marin, George Lopez and Carlos Mencia; the feature film A Million to Juan, which he also wrote, directed and starred in; six comedy specials for HBO including Loco Slam, Live in San Quentin and Idiots and Armadillos. As executive producer, he recently struck comedy again with his Comedy Central stand-up concert DVD, Comedy Rehab. In addition to his many hit comedy specials in English, Rodriguez has the distinguished credit of performing the first-ever one-hour standup comedy special in Spanish, Dime Con Quien Andas for Telemundo.

In addition to being a revolutionary and enduring force in the world of comedy, throughout his career Rodriguez has remained involved with various charitable, civic and educational organizations. Rodriguez was honored with the Humanitarian of the Year Award by the City of Fresno for his tireless work on behalf of water conservation. As Chairman of the California Latino Water Coalition, Rodriguez was one of the driving forces behind the California Water Bond Measure coming into fruition.

Time Out Magazine deemed Marcella Arguello an “LA Comedian to Watch in 2017” and is a fan favorite on Comedy Central’s @midnight. Most recently, she won her appearance on TruTv’s Comedy Knock Out and can be seen on The UCB Show’s upcoming second season on Seeso. She was featured on Viceland’s Flophouse, and in 2015 on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly.

Frankie Quinones brings a performance compared to a one-man variety show. He has performed for our troops overseas and has toured with some of the industry’s most respected headliners including Craig Robinson, Paul Rodriguez, and Eddie Griffin to name a few. He can be seen on Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Funny Or Die, and SeeSo.

Francisco Ramos was a top-ten finalist on Last Comic Standing 2015 and continues to flourish as an actor and voice-over artist in addition to touring as a stand-up comic across North America, most recently starring in the TV series Angie Tribeca from Steve Carell, Netflix’s Lady Dynamite, Showtime’s Shameless and voicing the role of Marmoset in the animated film RIO.
