A Flash Flood Watch is in effect Friday morning through Saturday morning for Santa Clarita Valley. Strong winds are expected to hit between 50 to 80 mph during the storm.
Residents in Sand Canyon, Placerita Canyon, Iron Canyon and areas of Val Verde, Little Tujunga and Agua Dulce/Acton (Soledad Canyon Road, from the 7000 block in Agua Dulce to the 11430 block in Acton) should be aware that they may not have access in or out of their neighborhood during the storm which is expected to produce the heaviest rains between 10 am and 10 pm on Friday. If you choose to stay in the area, please plan on SHELTERING IN PLACE. If you have a medical condition or need to leave the area, do so before Friday morning. Be aware that you most likely will not be able to return until the storm has passed and any flood waters have receded.
Friday’s storm is expected to bring heavy rains, strong winds, possible thunderstorms, flooding and debris flow. Everyone is reminded to have the necessary emergency supplies in their home and car. A list of which can be found at santaclarita.com/ReadyforRain.
Please remind neighbors, friends, family and anyone who may be visiting you in the flood areas, DO NOT attempt to drive through standing or moving water. Just six inches of water could carry away a vehicle. Be aware that during these storms there is a possibility of downed trees and power lines. Please be cautious of boulders or other debris in the roadway, and report downed power poles and odors of natural gas immediately by calling 9-1-1. Do not touch downed power lines.
Residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts to their phone by texting SCEMERGENCY to 888-777 or receive email alerts by signing up online at santa-clarita.com/ealerts.
