The 17 William S. Hart Union High School District Teachers of the Year for the 2017/18 school year were recognized by the Governing Board Wednesday.
The District Teacher of the Year is Mary Purdy, who retired at the end of last year as the choir teacher at Canyon High School. Mary is now one of 16 teachers being considered for Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year.

Selection criteria included personal growth, commitment, personal attributes and professional skills.
The California Teacher of the Year program, which began in 1972, has brought recognition to exemplary teachers, paying tribute to their resolute efforts. With the District’s many outstanding teachers, the staff takes pride in identifying and honoring its own heroes of Hart District classrooms

Both my children were in choir at Canyon all the way through high school. Very well deserved, Mrs. Purdy was a great teacher.
I am so happy to hear that Mrs. Purdy is being honored!It was because of her, that I had the confidence to sing my first solo. She truly was an inspiration to me.
Congrats Mrs.Purdy! You have made such a great impact on so many kids including myself. Quite honestly you deserve LA County Teacher of the year. Thank you for your guidance and your ability to believe in everyone who stepped into your classroom. You have made many success stories among us including artists musicians actors designers and home makers too! I really hope they pick you for LA County teacher of the year.
