Hart High grad Kyle Boller is calling it quits in the NFL.
Boller, a first-round draft pick by the Baltimore Ravens, ended his eight-year career as a NFL quarterback a day after signing with the San Diego Chargers.
He spent five seasons with the Ravens before moving on to play for the St. Louis Rams and Oakland Raiders.
Boller played at Cal in college and was the quarterback at Hart in 1998 when the Indians won the CJF Southern Section Division III championship.
In baseball, Golden Valley won the American Legion Area 6 championship and advanced to the state tournament.
Golden Valley beat St. Bernard, 9-2, in the Area 6 championship game at UCLA. Lukas Granado knocked in three runs with a triple in the third inning.
Starter Nick Tejada went five innings and gave up one run on four hits and struck out three.
The Grizzlies begin play in the American Legion state tournament in Yountville on Friday.
In cross country, 17-year-old Daniel De La Torre won the fourth race in the College of the Canyons series in 15 minutes, 13.5 seconds.
Renaud Poizat was second followed by Sergio Gonzalez in third.
Denna Flanagan was the highest-finishing woman. She completed the course in 18 minutes, 22.2 seconds.
In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-2, and saw their little three-game winning streak snapped.
Newly acquired Chris Johnson hit a grand slam and Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run homer for the Diamondbacks.
The Dodgers remained in a tie for first place in the National League West standings after the Giants lost to the Mets, 8-7, in 10 innings.
The Dodgers and Diamondbacks are back on the field tonight.
