Valencia High’s Alison Lee is headed back to the US Women’s Open golf tournament for the third time in her young career.Lee, who will be a senior at Valencia High in the fall, begins play in the US Open this morning at Blackwolf Run in Wisconsin.
She made her first appearance in the US Open before her freshman year in high school in 2009 and finished in 26th place.
She qualified again in 2010 but missed the cut after the first two rounds.
The 17-year-old Lee earned a spot in this year’s US Open after Sun Ju Ahn withdrew. Lee was the first alternate through her qualifier at Half Moon Bay Golf Links.
In baseball, Saugus High graduate Zach Vincej was selected as the top college shortstop in the nation winning the Brooks Wallace Award at the Collegiate Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions ceremony.
Vincej, a shortstop at Pepperdine, hit .339 and made only four errors in 59 games this past season.
He was the West Coast Conference defensive player of the year and was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the Major League Baseball draft.
The Lakers made some fireworks with a Fourth of July trade for two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash.
The Lakers acquired Nash from the Phoenix Suns for four draft picks in a sign-and-trade deal, according to reports from ESPN.
The trade keeps the Lakers star players, Kobe Bryant, Pao Gasol and Andrew Bynum, intact. The trade cannot be officially completed until July 11.
The Dodgers won their second game in a row, 4-1, over the Cincinnati Reds. Luis Cruz had another big game for the Dodgers. He was 2-for-3 with a double, scored two runs and drove in one.
The Dodgers are off to Arizona to start a weekend series with the Diamondbacks.
