The Salvation Army Santa Clarita Valley Corps proudly marched in this year’s Agua Dulce Country Fair Parade on Saturday, with Envoys Jerry and Laura Bloom and the Salvation Army Kettle Bug leading a group of lively volunteers down the parade route.
“Strawberry Fields for Heffer,” the theme of this year’s Fair and Parade, and a play on the John Lennon Beatles song “Strawberry Fields Forever” was exceptionally fitting for this group that is “Doing the Most Good.”
Did you know Lennon would have never written “Strawberry Fields Forever” if it wasn’t for The Salvation Army?
That’s because the real Strawberry Field was a Salvation Army home for orphans located near Lennon’s childhood home in Liverpool. It was a place where people received help when they needed it.
The Santa Clarita Corps proves the Salvation Army is not just about thrift stores and recycled items.
The Salvation Army’s Santa Clarita Corps, located in Newhall on Lyons Avenue next to Jimmy Dean’s, restores lives by helping those experiencing drug or alcohol addiction find the right rehab program and a path to a brighter future.
The Corps also sends more than 200 underprivileged kids to summer camp each year, provides year-round food assistance with its food pantry and holiday assistance to families.
Most important of all, when you donate to the Salvation Army in Santa Clarita, your donation stays in Santa Clarita and Acton/Agua Dulce to help local men, women and children in need.
If you need assistance or would like to donate or volunteer please contact the Salvation Army Santa Clarita Valley Corps at 661-799-5841.
