Santa Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean joined other elected officials from throughout the region to discuss transportation at the June 13 San Fernando Valley Council of Governments Mobility Workshop.

The workshop focused on advancing regional transportation priorities and looking toward the future, to lock in new SFVCOG mobility priorities for 2020 and beyond.

“As a board member of the San Fernando Valley Council of Governments, I had the pleasure of representing Santa Clarita at this workshop,” McLean said. “I have been a long-time avid supporter of public transit, and as modes of transportation evolve, it is imperative that we continue to strongly advocate for enhanced transportation opportunities for Santa Clarita.”

One of the main topics of discussion was increased Metrolink service to the Antelope Valley Line and initiating Metrolink’s Antelope Valley Line Study. In addition to making it easier for people to access Metrolink, emphasis was also placed on first- and last-mile connectivity. Workshop participants shared ideas for transportation options to get residents from the Metrolink stations to local job centers.

“We want to make it easy and efficient for the community to utilize public transportation for their daily commute or weekend adventures,” McLean said. “The city of Santa Clarita offers miles of protected bike trails and the Pace Bike Share program. This allows our residents and visitors to cycle from the Metrolink Station to their destination.”
