On the heels of the weekend’s Santa Ana winds episode, the National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the Santa Clarita Valley to be in effect from Tuesday evening through Thursday noon.
After the latest Red Flag Warning expires Monday at 6 p.m., a new warning of extreme fire danger from Santa Ana winds will be in effect from Tuesday at 11 p.m. until Thursday at 6 p.m.
The NWS warns that this Santa Ana wind event will likely be the strongest so far this season.
The wind warning for the SCV as well as Ventura County valleys and mountains calls for northeast winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts to 65 mph possible between Tuesday and Thursday.
The peak of the wind event is expected Wednesday when damaging wind gusts between 50 and 70 mph will be likely for the wind-prone areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, with isolated gusts to 80 mph in the hills and mountains possible.
Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Tuesday’s Extreme Red Flag Warning, which also covers much of Los Angeles County including the San Fernando Valley as well as Ventura County, alerts residents of gusty northeast winds and very low relative humidity.
These strong winds combined with a long duration of single-digit humidities (including very poor to no recoveries Wednesday night) and dry fuels will likely bring very critical fire weather conditions, making this an extreme Red Flag Warning event.
