Saturday, you can beat the SCV heat by cruising up the I-5 to Frazier Park and then 20 miles west up to the Pine Mountain Village Center. The mountain community is staging its 17th annual “Run to the Pines” car show. You’ll see antiques, street rods, American and British classics, motorcycles and lots of other cool rides. There’ll be prizes for the best wheels in several categories, plus food and live music by the cover band Yesteryear. “Run to the Pines” runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission and parking are free for all ages. Back in the SCV Saturday night, the city of Santa Clarita’s latest Concert in the Park at Central Park stars Captain Cardiac & The Coronaries. The band’s high-voltage vintage rock and soul will definitely get your blood pumpin.’ Cardiac and his fellow patients hit the stage at 7, but get there early to save your spot. It’s free for all ages.
Later Saturday night, you can catch Woodwork, the instrumental trio that broke out of the COC Music Department. They’re featured on a special encore broadcast of SCVTV’s “House Blend” hosted by yours truly. Avery Merritt on violin-fiddle, Rory Glenn on acoustic guitar and Brendan Coyle on keyboards play a musically adventurous blend of jazz, progressive rock, classical, blues and Americana. Finally, on Sunday, you can head out to the beach and enjoy brunch with live jazz at the Discovery Ventura in Ventura.
