The Santa Clarita Valley’s chapter of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is set to debut the Santa Clarita United, their competitive club soccer program, on Saturday, September 9, 2017. The United program is AYSO’s official club program offering competitive teams with leading edge training while still enjoying the AYSO philosophies.
The Santa Clarita United program is headed by Maz Badie, Director of Coaching, with the support of AYSO 10S – Santa Clarita, under the leadership of Santa Clarita’s coaching stalwart, Robert Benavidez.
The Santa Clarita United emphasizes player development ahead of winning, and supports that tenet by ensuring all players 50% playing time. Players retain their passion and love for the game by being on the field, and not merely participating as spectators according to AYSO United officials. Santa Clarita United is competing in the Coast Soccer League with opening games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday on fields throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.
AYSO is the oldest and one of the most influential youth soccer organizations in the world. More than six million kids have played AYSO soccer since the organization started in 1964 and with 50,000 teams and 500,000 players nationwide, remains an influential part of the lives of our American youth.
With the addition of Santa Clarita United, AYSO 10S – Santa Clarita now offers programs suitable for all levels of play. The Core Program is offered to all kids between the ages of 4 and 19. For players between the ages of 9 and 15 looking for a higher level of competiveness than what core programs offer, AYSO 10S offers an EXTRA Program, with teams competing against inter-Sectional AYSO EXTRA teams from Southern California.
AYSO 10S also offers VIP (Very Important Player) Programs for children and adults whose physical or mental disabilities make it difficult to successfully participate on mainstream teams. VIP teams may include players who are blind or visually impaired, players who are amputees or with conditions that impair mobility, mentally or emotionally challenged players, and/ or players with autism, Down syndrome or cerebral palsy.
