Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is investigating a possible hate crime at the Castaic Lake Senior Apartments after a vandal tagged the walls of the complex.
Black spray paint was used to write the names of various employees and residents paired with a derogatory term or slur at some time between Monday night and Tuesday morning, according to Shirley Miller, public information officer for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The vandal called individuals names including racist, jihad and other slurs.
The incident is being handled by both the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the Hate Crime Task Force, a specialized unit within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
“They do have information that has been received from some of the residents in the complex that they are following,” said Miller.
The Castaic Lake Senior Apartments declined comment on the incident.
