[CH2M] – The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority has selected a team led by CH2M to provide the plans, specifications and estimates for the design of new high occupancy vehicle lanes along Interstate 5 in both directions between State Route 14 in Santa Clarita and Parker Road in Castaic.
As a component of the Measure R regional transportation improvement program, Metro will develop the I‐5 North Managed Lanes project with a goal of relieving congestion, increasing system efficiency and travel options, improving safety, maintaining the viability of the surrounding communities and meeting travel demand for future generations.
The PS&E scope of work for the 14-mile project includes:
* designing a HOV lane in each direction, as well as auxiliary lanes at various locations;
* extending the truck lane in the northbound direction from the Weldon Canyon overcrossing to Calgrove Boulevard;
* extending the truck lane in the southbound direction from Calgrove Boulevard to Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue;
* extending two southbound truck lanes from Weldon Canyon to Calgrove Boulevard; and
* widening eight bridges.
When construction is completed, the managed lanes project will provide for improved mobility along this segment of I-5. Caltrans, the City of Santa Clarita and the County of Los Angeles are key partners in this project.

The California Department of Transportation announced that new High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV, or carpool) lanes are open to motorists on Northbound and Southbound Interstate 5 between the Ventura Freeway (State Route 134) interchange in Los Angeles and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank.

What doesn’t work?? Nobody is in them besides a small spattering of people. They sure don’t work like the idiots who run this state thought they would. Meanwhile, that’s another lane that my tax dollars is wasted on when I could be in that lane.
The concrete is already there, just need yellow paint guys… What they they to do is stop bottlenecking the 14 fwy from Newhall pass to Placerita. They need to move the HOV lane over and squeeze in another lane.
Wait a minute. Most of this stretch of highway was improved and had been under construction for the last three years already! And they couldnt finish it off with extra lanes then? What the heck?! This all should have been done when we were bottlenecked for those three years. The concrete is there, just paint the damn lines in and put up signs. There has been space sitting there since then. Ridiculously inefficient work.
The more difficult these people make it for those living in the suburbs to commute, the more likely it will be that residents will temporarily use mass transit and (out of disgust) ultimately relocate to the cities. The mega developers have lots of residential space to sell or rent downtown and their lobbyists have city, county, and state politicians in their pockets.
I thought this was successfully fought down! It proves for MORE congestion to have HOV lanes – add a lane? GREAT! Make it for everyone, all the time.
Are they still going to do the FastTrack Fiasco? They call those the 1% lanes and have proven to be a failure all over the state.
Are they still ending the truck lane at Parker? that will be a traffic nightmare and the CATC fought that as well.
I hope these are not the same people who designed the mess on northbound I-5 at the 14. That should be corrected before anyone starts designing more lines to the north.

Haven’t these people realized yet that HOV lanes are a 35 year experiment that hasn’t worked? Just give us all another lane to drive in!!!
