The city of Santa Clarita’s Thursdays@Newhall series will head indoors for the winter months and feature a series of events in The MAIN in November.
Thursdays@Newhall is an ongoing opportunity for residents of Santa Clarita to attend free shows, concerts and special events on Thursdays throughout the year.
The winter schedule begins November 1 at The MAIN (24266 Main Street), when 10 performers will take the stage for 10 minutes each and share their comedy, storytelling, short films and music at the monthly 10 by 10 show from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Perhaps best known as “Squirrel Lady,” Betsy Salkind will take the stage for a comedy set that is guaranteed to have you clutching your side and fighting back tears of laughter. You may already be familiar with Betsy’s work, as she has appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Last Comic Standing,” and also served as a writer on the original run of “Roseanne.”
Performances this month also include storytelling by Philip Scorza, Alex Stein, Ellen Switkes and Fiona Manning; comedy with Lisa Alvarado; music by Fisher Fifteen and Thomas Alfera; mentalist Gabe Abelson; and a screening of short film “Rachel’s Pitch,” directed by Julia Fulmer.
On November 8, local musicians will take the stage for Note by Note inside The MAIN from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Note by Note is a free musical showcase delighting audiences with a variety of genres. Bands, duos and soloists will perform a wide range of styles, including rock, folk, Celtic, Americana, blues, jazz, country, experimental, western and more.
Featured performers in November include T.J. Sullivan, Debbie Hennessey, Ross Altman and Abel Gallardo. Artists interested in performing at Note by Note can learn more at ThursdaysAtNewhall.com/NotebyNote.
Starting Tuesday, November 12, the art gallery at The MAIN will feature a collection of work by artist Theresa Knopf. The exhibit is titled “Memory | Mythology” and will showcase ink drawings, collages and fiber installations. The community is invited to a free art reception on Saturday, November 17 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at The MAIN. Guests will enjoy light snacks and music, and have a chance to meet the artist.
