The city of Santa Clarita’s Thursdays@Newhall series, presented by Galpin Subaru, roars into June with a unique lineup of events including a classic Volkswagen car show, James Bond-themed SENSES Block Party and monthly variety show. Old Town Newhall is the hot spot on Thursday nights so grab your friends and family and come down for some fun.
From 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on June 1, celebrate the rhythms of West Africa with drumming, dancing and singing led by Yeko Ladzekpo-Cole and live music from ADAAWE. JAM Sessions is hosted in conjunction with the Ford Theatre Foundation, bringing dance and original live performances to the Old Town Newhall Library, located at 24500 Main Street.
Also on June 1, at The MAIN, located at 24266 Main Street, 10 performers will take the stage for 10 minutes each and share their comedy, storytelling, short films and music at the monthly 10 by 10 show from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Performances this month include comedy from Glenn Bolton and Jackie Collins, storytelling from Jessica Lee Williamson, magic from Liam Johnson Johnson, live theater production “The People’s Cookie,” music from Malynda Hale, Fayleen Morrow and The New Mexican, and the film short “Cradle.”
From 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on June 8, travel back to the Summer of Love with classic Volkswagen vehicles at the Revved Up car show, presented by State Farm. Residents can order tasty treats from food trucks and purchase adult beverages provided by Persia Lounge while checking out the cars on display. Local residents interested in submitting an automobile for Revved Up can apply at OldTownNewhall.com/RevvedUp.
Also on June 8, local songwriters will perform their original works at Note by Note inside The MAIN, located at 24266 Main Street, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The evening’s performers include JC Hyke, Matt Stone, Ryan Matthew and Non Duo. Get your “License to Thrill” on June 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the James Bond-themed SENSES block party, presented by Galpin Subaru. For a few hours, you can transform into James Bond as you practice your escape skills, gamble for your life and grab a shaken – not stirred – martini from the on-street bar, provided by Newhall Refinery. Complete the evening with grub from one of the food trucks or local restaurants.
Thursdays@Newhall’s May events conclude with the ARTree Speaker Series on June 22 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The MAIN. CalArts graduate and artist Bill Davis has worked in just about every creative commercial visual field available, including the graphic arts department at NBC, designing commercials for Chevron, McDonalds, IBM, Toyota, and AT&T, and leading the creative teams for video game companies Sierra Online, Rocket Science Games and iWin.
