LACoFD reports that the fire acreage is approximately 3,000 acres at 0 percent containment. 50,000 people are estimated to be under mandatory evacuation. Four LACoFD helicopters, four Angeles National Forest air tankers and approximately 500 firefighters are assigned to this incident.

7:04 p.m.

According to the City of Santa Clarita and LACoFD, the Tick Fire has been downgraded to 3,950 acres. Central Park is being used as a base camp for firefighters — please avoid the area.

6:57 p.m.

Northbound I-5 at Hasley Canyon Road has been reopened.

College of the Canyons and CalArts classes are canceled tonight.

6:27 p.m.

William S. Hart Park in Newhall will be closed Friday, October 25.

An estimated 40,000- 50,000 people are in the evacuation zone.

The Verde Fire and Old Fire in Castaic are in mop-up phases with no active flames.

The LACoFD is reporting that the Tick Fire acreage is 5,000 acres. Forward progress has been slowed and structure protection remains in place.

LASD’s evacuation update: Residents who live in the area of Sand Canyon, South of 14 freeway to Placertia Canyon are under an evacuation warning. Residents should be prepared to leave if needed and can leave and return to your homes if you have ID with an address listed.

5:49 p.m.

Fire officials downgraded the acreage of the Tick Fire to just above 3,000 acres.

The evacuation center for those affected by the fires in the Santa Clarita Valley is located at the College of the Canyons Valencia campus gym and the Newhall Community Center. The large and livestock animal evacuation center is located at Pierce College in Woodland Hills. Small animal evacuations can be taken to Castaic Animal Care Center.

According to the LACoFD, Mandatory Evacuations for the Tick Fire includes all residents North of 14 freeway, east of Whites/Plum Canyon, south of Vasquez Canyon, West of Agua Dulce, South of 14 freeway, East of Sand Canyon, North of Placerita Canyon, and West of Robinson Ranch Golf Course.

Road and freeway closures include: NB I-5 at Parker Road in Castaic CLOSED due to brush fire, State Route 14: NB & SB Placerita Cyn Rd, Soledad Cyn Rd & Sand Cyn Rd on & off ramps closed both until further notice.

3:20 p.m.:

The William S Hart Union High School District announced all career and college readiness classes and some events have been canceled as a result of the Tick fire, according to Public Relations Officer Dave Caldwell. Those events include all outdoor activities at Canyon Country High School, La Mesa Junior High School, and football games at Golden Valley and Saugus high schools.

Los Angeles County Fire Department officials responded to a brush fire in Canyon Country on Thursday afternoon.

The vegetation fire was reported near the intersection of Tick Canyon Road and Summit Knoll Road shortly after 1:40 p.m., according to fire officials.

The fire, as of 1:55 p.m., was running up hill and three structures were threatened, according to Fire Department Inspector Sean Rios.

At 2:03 p.m. the Fire Department officials stated that the Tick Fire had reached 200 acres and was running downhill.

At 2:10 p.m., officials announced a third alarm response to the Tick Fire.

Both air and ground units have been called to the scene, according to officials.
