SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – For the third time in athletic department history, The Master’s College’s Reese Field at Lou Herwaldt Stadium will be a host site for the seventh-annual NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round.
“It’s a remarkable feat for this year’s team and we are excited for the opportunity to put ourselves in position again to host and be on display in the community,” commented head coach Monte Brooks. “We’re excited that the local community gets to experience this type of high-class baseball again. With the challenges that we’ve faced this season, the Lord’s hand definitely orchestrated all of this!”
Along with the honor of hosting the tournament, the Mustangs will receive an automatic postseason berth.
The fifth-ranked Mustangs are currently in first place in the Golden State Athletic Conference and have been ranked in the NAIA Top 25 throughout the entire 2015 campaign. The Mustangs are currently 30-6 in conference play and 37-7 overall.
The tournament will be played May 12-15 and will feature nine, five-team double elimination tournaments around the country.
Along with TMC, this year’s hosts include: Bellevue University (Neb.), Davenport University (Mich.), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Fla.), Faulkner University (Ala.), Georgia Gwinnett College, Kingsport (Tenn.) Convention and Visitors Bureau, Oklahoma Baptist University, and Oklahoma City University.
The Opening Round site selection process took into account geography, facilities, student-athlete experience, and host qualification.
The 45 qualifiers and brackets for the National Championship Opening Round will be announced on May 8.
